Soccer U-16s to play three trials against European teams in Spai
Gain international experience against Portugal, Wales, and the Netherlands
The Korea Under-16 Men"s National Team will gain international experience against European powerhouses in Spain.
The Korea National Football Association announced today that the U-16 team will play three friendlies against European teams in Murcia, Spain. The team will depart the country on Sept. 10 to face the Portugal U-17 national team, the Wales U-16 national team and the Netherlands U-16 national team.
The squad is comprised of 22 16-year-old players born in 2007.
While the players are not in an age group with immediate international commitments, they are candidates for the 2027 U-20 World Cup in four years.
"The current U-17 squad for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup is predominantly composed of 2006-born players, so the 2007-born players have relatively little experience against foreign teams," said the federation. "This friendly was organized to break up the squad by age and give the younger players international experience."
The U-16 team also held a four-day training camp in Korea in September.
The team has yet to be named a head coach and will be led by former association coaches Lee Chang-hyun, Choi Soo-hyung, Cha Sang-kwang, and Woo Jeong-ha.
